Introduction to Plant Science

Description: An introduction to the major groups in the plant kingdom, their origin, classification, and economic importance. The areas of anatomy, morphology, cytology, physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, and ecology will be explored as they relate to plant sciences and agriculture.
Objectives:

1) Develop a detailed knowledge base in plant biology (this includes cytology, physiology, morphology, anatomy, genetics, classification, evolution and ecology of plants).
2) Introduce the broad diversity of plant types (from bacteria to flowering plants) and their importance to plant biology, agriculture, and other human endeavors.
3) Introduce research applications and methods in plant science.
4) Develop a familiarity with plants and sharpen observational skills.
5)
Increase appreciation of plants and their role in human affairs.

Pre/Corequisites: None
Notes: Required for Environmental Plant Study major, Plant Biology major, Plant Pathology minor, Weed Science minor, and Plant Biology minor. This course complements many plans of study as a College of Agriculture or School of Science elective.
