Kixor Products - (Products with the active ingredient saflufenacil, group 14)
Kixor products were available last year. The term "Kixor" is the name that BASF has given to the active ingredient saflufenacil or the family of herbicides that use saflufenacil. In the marketing it is referred to as the products being "powered by Kixor." The Kixor line of herbicides that were available last year are Sharpen, saflufenacil alone; Integrity, a premix of Outlook (dimethenamid) and Sharpen; and OpTill, a premix of Pursuit (imazethapyr) and Sharpen. Sharpen is labeled for fall or spring applications in soybean and corn, and pre in wheat. Integrity is labeled for field corn and popcorn and OpTill for soybean. See table 1 for a rate structure. Most recently the product Integrity has been renamed Verdict and labeled for corn, popcorn and soybean. Sharpen is commonly mixed with glyphosate for preplant burndown in no-till situations. It can be used to replace 2,4-D to avoid the 7 day waiting period before planting soybeans. The product Sharpen alone provides excellent control of lambsquarter and pigweeds, and good control of nightshade, morningglory, cocklebur, ragweeds, jimsonweed, velvetleaf and waterhemp preemergence. It should be placed in a management program that has a postemergence component. To increase grass activity use Verdict, Optill or apply with tank mix partner that has grass activity.

Bayer

Balance Flexx - (2 lb/gal isoxaflutole + safener; group 27)
Balance Flexx was available last year and is labeled in corn. It is a new formulation for Balance Pro adding a safener, cyprosulfamide, to reduce the risk of injury. Balance Pro was labeled for pre crop emergence, but the addition of the safener in Balance Flexx allows for applications up to the V2 stage of corn. However, it is most effective on small weeds no larger than one leaf. The addition of atrazine will increase control. Balance Flexx with atrazine and either 2,4-D or glyphosate can provide excellent burndown control of chickweed, mustards, henbit, deadnettle, foxtails and cressleaf grounsel before flowering. Balance Flexx can provide preemergence control of barnyardgrass, fall panicum, giant foxtail, black nightshade, common ragweed, lambsquarter and pigweed. Use 4 to 6 fl oz/A 8 to 30 days before planting or 3 to 6 fl oz/A a 0 to 7 days before planting, preemergence or early post. See label for soil specific rates.

Olympus Flex – (6.75% propoxycarbazone-sodium + 4.5% mesosulfuron; group 2)
Olympus Flex is a premix of Olympus (propoxycarbazone-sodium) and Osprey (mesosulfuron). Olympus Flex is labeled for winter wheat or fall-sown triticale. Apply in the fall or spring at 3 oz/A or use 3.5 oz/A in high weed densities or under dry conditions. Olympus Flex can be applied from first fully expanded true leaf to jointing. Some of the weeds listed as control are chickweed, common buttercup, several mustard species, cheat, annual ryegrass and smooth brome. Catchweed bedstraw and henbit are listed as partial control.

Dow AgroSciences

PowerFlex – (7.5% pyroxsulam; group 2)
PowerFlex
is labeled for annual grass and broadleaf control in winter wheat. Apply to wheat in the fall or spring when it is in the 3-leaf to jointing stage. When applied alone use with NIS at 0.25% v/v or 1% v/v COC. Do not use 28% UAN or as the spray carrier. Apply to grass weeds in the 2-leaf to 2-tiller stage and to broadleaves that are 2 inches tall or 2 inches in diameter or less. Wait a minimum of 3 months after winter wheat harvest or 5 months after application before planting soybean.

DuPont

Realm Q – (7.5% rimsulfuron + 31.25% mesotrione; group 2 and 27)
Labeled for use in field corn, Realm Q a premix of Resolve and Callisto combines two herbicide modes of action that both have some residual activity. Realm Q should be applied at 4 oz/A from corn emergence to not taller than 20 inch corn or to corn that is V7 or greater, which ever comes first. Apply with crop oil concentrate and with a nitrogen fertilizer for control of emerged weeds. Barnyardgrass, crabgrasses, foxtails, and fall panicum should be sprayed when they are 2 inches or less. Broadleaves such as pigweed, lambsquarters, ragweed, prickly sida and water hemp should be sprayed before they are 5 inches tall. Can be tank mixed with glyphosate or glufosinate in a Roundup Ready (RR) or Liberty Link (LL) corn. Do not apply to corn grown for seed, popcorn or sweet corn.

Resolve Q – (18.4% rimsulfuron + 4% thifensulfuron-methyl; group 2)
Label changes to the Resolve Q label increases the total amount that can be used from 0.5 to 1 oz/A. The Fallow rate has been set to 1.25 to 2.5 oz/A and several burndown weeds have been added to the label. Changes to the rotations section allow tomatoes to be planted one month later if the 1.25 oz/A rate is used. Soybean can be planted in 10 months after application.

Perspective - (39.5% aminocyclopyralid + 15.8% chlorsulfuron), Streamline - (39.5% aminocyclopyrachlor + 12.6% metsulfuron methyl) or Viewpoint - (31.6% imazapyr + 22.85 aminocycloprachlor + 7.3% metsulfuron methyl)
These three products contain the new active ingreadient aminocyclopyrachlor. Aminocyclopyrachlor is a growth regulator that has been reported to control common milkweed, Canada thistle, field bindweed and Russian olive greater than 90% one year after treatment. Perspective has been labeled for unimproved turf, well established industrial turfgrasses on roadsides, utility rights-of-way, airports and other non-crop sites. The rate range is from 1.75 to 8 oz/A depending on site and weeds. Streamline is labeled for non-crop sites such as railroads, airports, roadsides, farmyards, fuel storage sites, fence rows, non-irrigation ditchbanks and more. It can also be used in natural areas such as wildlife management areas, openings, trailheads and recreation areas. Rate range is 1.75 to 11.5 oz/A based on weed. Viewpoint is also labeled for non-crop for the control of invasive species and noxious weed management. The rate range for Viewpoint is 13 to 20 oz/A.

FMC

Authority XL - (sulfentrazone + chlorimuron; groups 14 and 2)
Not yet labeled. Authority XL is a rerelease of Authority Broadleaf or Canopy XL. However, there are some formulation changes. Authority XL has an increase of the Authority (sulfentrazone) component. Rate will be based on % organic matter, soil texture and soil pH. Applications will be prohibited on soils with a pH above 7.6. Rate ranges will be between 5 to 9 oz/A in RR or LL soybean or 3 to 5 oz/A in conventional soybean. Authority XL will be labeled for applications from PRE to up to 3 days after planting.

Cadet – (10.3% fluthiacet-methyl; group 14)
Cadet was available last year and is a PPO labeled in corn and soybean. Cadet is being positioned as a tank-mix partner with glyphosate or glufosinate in RR and LL crops. Use rate range will be from 0.5 to 0.9 oz/A. The addition of 0.35% v/v NIS is recommended. Although similar to Aim, it is reported that soybean crop response is less than seen from Aim. Recommended weed size for optimum control is no taller than 3 inches.

Monsanto

Warrant – (33% acetochlor, group 15)
Warrant is a new microencapsulated formulation of acetochlor labeled for POST applications in soybean. It is being positioned to be used with Roundup products to provide residual activity of such weeds as annual grasses, pigweeds, waterhemp, black nightshade, and lambsquarter. The addition of Warrant with glyphosate will also add a second mode of action to the glyphosate (group 9) applications. Be aware that Warrant will not control emerged weeds and has to be applied with a POST emergence herbicide. In a tank-mix with glyphosate, Warrant can be applied from emergence to the R2 stage of Roundup Ready soybean at 1.25 to 2.0 qt/A: see table 2 for specific rate for your soil texture. Optimum timing is when weeds are 2 to 4 inches tall and soybeans are at the V2 to V3 stage. If a second application is required do not exceed 4 qt/A in one season. Do not use a fertilizer as a carrier.

TripleFLEX – (3.75 lb ai acetochlor + 0.12 lb ai flumetsulam + 0.38 lb ai clopyralid; groups 15, 2 and 4)
A premix of Degree, Python and Stinger, TripleFLEX is labeled for field and silage corn. This provides a three-way mix of three modes of action that can be applied preplant up to 30 days before planting or preemergence. TripleFLEX can also be applied postemergence up to 11-inch tall corn for the control of small weeds with some residual activity. Application rates range from 1.5 to 2 pt/A and are dependent on soil textures and percent organic matter. This combination of active ingredients can provide good to excellent preemergence control of several annual grasses such as barnyardgrass, foxtails, crabgrass, fall panicum, lambsquarter, eastern black nightshade, pigweed and velvetleaf. However, the third component, clopyralid, can provide postemergence control of ragweeds, jimsonweed, and cocklebur. TripleFLEX can provide some burndown of Canada thistle, but the rates of clopyralid are not high enough to provide control.

Nufarm

Cleansweep D or Cleansweep M (1.6 lb ai Bromoxynil + 1.67 lb ai fluroxypyr+ 2.01 2,4-D or 1.67 lb ai MCPA)
The Cleansweep herbicides are a premix of Buctril and Starane with either 2,4-D or MCPA. Application timing and rates are slightly different for the two separate products. Cleansweep D can be applied to wheat, barley, oats or triticale from the fully tillered stage of growth to before the jointing stage at a rate of 1 to 1.5 pt/A. Cleansweep M can be applied to Wheat, barley and oats from the 2-leaf up to and including the flag leaf stage at 1 to 2 pt/A. Cleansweep M can also be used in CRP lands to grasses that are at the 3-leaf or greater stage at 1 to 2 pt/A. Some of the listed on the label that can be problematic in winter wheat in Indiana are chickweed and mustard species.

Syngenta

Orion - (2.34 lb ai/gal MCPA + 0.033 lb ai/gal florasulam; groups 2 and 4)
Orion is labeled to control winter and summer annual weeds in wheat, oats, barley, rye and triticale. It is a premix of a growth regulator and an ALS inhibitor. Apply up to 17 fl oz/A after the 3-leaf stage, up to the jointing stage. Adjuvants are not necessary. Can provide excellent control of chickweed, mustard species, common ragweed and lambsquarter. Corn can be planted in 3 months, soybean can be planted in 9 months.

Pulsar – (0.7275 lb ai/gal dicamba + 0.9455 lb ai/gal fluroxypyr; group 4)
Pulsar is a premix of Starane (fluroxypyr) and dicamba that is labeled in wheat and barley for the control of broadleaf weeds. Apply Pulsar at 8.3 o 12.5 oz/A prior to the wheat jointing stage in fall seeded wheat or before wheat exceeds the 6-leaf stage for spring seeded wheat. Early developing wheat varieties can receive applications between early tillering and prior to the jointing stage. The addition of MCPA ester at 8.6 oz/A increases the number of weeds controlled and is recommended. In less than great weather conditions such as dry growing conditions, low relative humilities or cool temperatures, apply with NIS at 0.125% to 0.25% v/v. If tank mixed with loaded herbicides (herbicides that have surfactants) the addition of NIS is not necessary. The label lists control of several mustard species, bedstraw, and kochia.

Callisto Xtra - (3.2 lb ai atrazine + 0.5 lb ai mesotrione, groups 5 + 27)
Label and university recommendations for Callisto often included atrazine to bump up ragweed and control of a few other weeds. Callisto Xtra is a premix of Callisto and atrazine. Callisto Xtra can be applied to field corn, seed corn at 20 to 24 fl oz/A after corn has emerged up to 12 inches tall. Some inbred lines may be more sensitive to the active ingredient than others, refer to your seed company for tolerance guidance. Apply with COC at 1% v/v or NIS at 0.25% v/v. Callisto Xtra can also be applied to sweet corn and yellow popcorn; however, this can cause some transitory bleaching. Grass control can be improved with a tank mix of a labeled corn grass product such as Accent.

Valent

Valor SX (51% flumioxazin)
The Valor SX has a supplemental label for use before field corn. It can be applied only in no-till field corn between 7 and 30 days before planting corn. Application rates are 2 oz/A between 7 and 30 days before planting with a minimum of 25% and a minimum of 1/4 inches of rain. If 14 to 30 days before planting, a rate of 3 oz/A can be used. Valor SX has excellent activity on marestail, black nightshade, lambsquarter and pigweeds. The supplemental label lists residual control of prickly sida at the 2 oz/A rate. Indiana and Ohio experienced difficulties with prickly sida 2011. However, much of that may have been late emerging plants.
